The ancient boathouse for the galleasses used by the Order of Santo Stefano Knights and the Tuscan Grand Duke navy
The Dockyard of Galleasses, that nowadays hosts a supermarket and many shops – was built in the sixteenth century by Cosimo de’ Medici with the aim of sheltering the galleasses of the Order of Santo Stefano Knights and of the Tuscan Grand Duke navy afterwards, which had the task of protecting the city from the sea.
Even today, going for a walk through the shops, you can admire the round arches and part of the aqueduct supported by arches.
How to get there
Go into “Piazza Cavour” from “Porta a Mare” and take the road on the right.
